Local Chai

It’s a month into second semester here at Corvallis High School, and for many, life has quickly filled with test studies, essay writing, and homework deadlines. For anyone needing a mental boost to get them through the doldrums of a school project, or for students looking to get away from the books for an hour and catch up with friends, why not visit a local Corvallis coffeehouse to enjoy a cup of chai, the sweet and spicy tea drink that has skyrocketed in popularity this school year.  Three places in Corvallis stand out for their own unique take on this warm and delicious restorative beverage.

If a nice, foamy chai suits your fancy, head on over to Coffee Culture!  Conveniently located near CHS, this coffeehouse has a warm ambiance with quiet music, friendly baristas, and lots of space with comfy furniture to meet your big study group.  The chai here is fragrant, with complex spicy undertones in a not-too-sweet drink, a well-balanced beverage sure to delight any chai-lover’s taste buds.  On the off chance that studying doesn’t suit, the coffeehouse also has more private seating areas, too, which might be just the perfect spot for an afternoon or weekend date with someone special or a small group of friends.

Does spicy chai tempt your pallet?  If so, Tried and True is the place to go.   While the small downtown storefront might appear cramped from the outside, don’t be fooled by street looks, as the coffeehouse is actually quite roomy inside. With friendly owners, calming white walls, and rustic wooden shelves filled with mugs and tea fixings, Tried and True has a cozy, peaceful ambiance and is the perfect place to write an essay, complete homework, or enjoy a good book.  The chai served here is on the spicier side of the spectrum and is topped with a perfect layer of foam (the drink’s signature garnish), and then sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg, and marrying all the flavors together with a hint of spicy black pepper.

If you’re one for sweet chai, be sure to visit The Beanery.  With its warm environment and friendly chatter, this coffeehouse is the ideal place to pop in some earbuds and crack open a textbook, or sit down to catch up with friends.  The chai served here is served up two different ways – sweet and spicy sweet.  The sweet chai features a thick, full-bodied base topped with frothy sweet foam, while the spicy chai is similarly sweet, yet has a stronger, more bold kick of complex spices enjoyed with each sip.  In offering chai enthusiasts different options, The Beanery aims to please with everyone’s chai-loving tastes.
