2017 Boys Soccer Recap

Although often overlooked, the boys and girls soccer teams at Corvallis High School are some of the top groups of athletes both in the Mid-Willamette conference and 5A rankings. Both teams came into the 2017 season off of a strong finish in 2016. The seasons so far have had their ups and downs but the teams hold a solid record as they finish out their league play, both definitely in contention for postseason success.

The boys’ soccer team have had a season full of achievements and victories, all of which have brought them attention both in the Mid-Willamette Conference and 5A rankings. The boys finished the season ranked second out of all 5A schools in the state with an overall record of 12-1-1. Not only have the boys just been rolling in the wins but they also have been making history. The Spartans handed the Woodburn Bulldogs, defending 5A state champions,  just their second loss in the 12-year history of the conference. The boys also lead the league in goals scored, 61 and have only allowed 6 goals all season. The boys’ team is a roster full of 12 seniors, but rightfully so many underclassmen have been making a larger than life impact. Ending the season with a strong second place finish in both the league and state rankings puts the the Spartans in a strong position heading into postseason play. Although the sub-varsity teams ended their seasons, all three had a great season full of growth. Go Sparts!
