Although often overlooked, the boys and girls soccer teams at Corvallis High School are some of the top groups of athletes both in the Mid-Willamette conference and 5A rankings. Both teams came into the 2017 season off of a strong finish in 2016—the girls especially ending with a fourth straight league championship. The seasons so far have had their ups and downs but the teams hold a solid record as they finish out their league play, both definitely in contention for postseason success.
Despite the mixed pre-season and early loss to the cross-town rivals at the beginning of league play the Spartans have put up a strong showing in the Mid-Willamette Conference. This years team consists of contributors from all classes, standout freshman, experienced seniors and everyone in between. Senior athlete and team captain Elly Wolfe states, “It was tough losing to CV but I am really proud of how we have bounced back in the games since. I am so excited to see how far this team can go into the state tournament.” The Spartan girls have an overall record of 9-4-1 ending the season ranked at number 7 in 5A, and with a league record of 6-1 they are ranked second in the Mid-WIllamette Conference. Although the sub-varsity teams do not have post-season play, both JV and JV2 have had successful seasons full of development and experience.
